Title: The Role of Context in Deep Learning for Applications in Smart Environments

Speaker:  Dr. Rashmi Dutta Baruah, IIT Guwahati

ABSTRACT:

Smart environments, including smart industries, smart cities, smart buildings, and smart homes, are becoming a reality thanks to the Internet of Things (IoT). These settings frequently produce massive volumes of data. Such data can be used to develop predictive models for various applications and for providing automation at different levels. In an IoT-enabled smart environment, context is crucial because it enables more insightful analysis of the data that is gathered. Deep Learning techniques, namely Deep Neural Networks (DNNs), are capable of learning complex relations between input and output data. However, they are yet to be explored fully in the domains where the input-output relations are influenced by contexts. The talk will discuss various problems where context is relevant and present an approach to integrate available contexts with deep learning-based predictive models. It will further discuss its applications in the domain of smart environments.
